Beth Rubenstein

Experience: Beth Rubenstein’s career has been at the intersection of public policy, equity and community development. She has worked as an architect, nonprofit executive director, as a legislative aide to three members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and most recently as Deputy Director of Policy and Communications at San Francisco Public Works, a City agency that builds and maintains City infrastructure including roads, urban forestry and buildings. Whether at the nonprofit Youth Art Exchange or as a policy leader in City government, her work has been grounded in community- or workplace-driven needs, voices and data, and is built on the collective expertise of the team, and guided by actionable implementation plans.

Education: Beth has a Masters in Architecture from Yale University and was a Klingstein Fellow in Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Though she has not practiced architecture for a long time, she continues to see the world through the eyes of an architect: her work speaks to the question of how do we build just and equitable communities – both socially and physically.

Skills: Project management, equity analysis, strategic planning and visioning, team building

How I find Equilibrium: Being in nature grounds me, calms me and inspires me: I love hiking around the Bay Area and looking at vistas and the details of our world. Drawing, yoga and reading are nourishing as well. And it is in community and conversation with friends and family where I find joy and have my world expanded.
